I am a lucky person to have not only seen The Make-Up live, but have had the chance to interview Ian Svenonius for a webzine I ran (called …r e n d…). They were a hell of an act. Pure rock star performances that very few actual rock stars could/can beat.
If only I could be in London for their reunion:
Stereogum: The Make-Up Reunite.
Thanks to Kim for posting this video up on her Facebook page.
WOW!!! Let’s see the interview!!!
Ian Svenonius interview on the MAKEUP REUNION
“People are thinking different about the group. Rock and roll started as just pure exploitation trash. “Pink socks are cool, write a song about pink socks.” And exploit that. Or a dance move. Then in the art age — Emerson Lake and Palmer — everything became very precious, arty and in a sense punk ended a lot of that. A lot of the ideas of purity. The pure art expression, what’s pure. Minor Threat has a song about their response to people saying they’re selling out. Or the Who, “The Who Sell Out.” Sell-out obsession… But, no, I don’t feel a particularly moral quandary about playing.”
